Combining Christmas and unicorns may not seem appropriate, but it definitely is a winning combination. I’ve seen these unicorn ornaments all over Pinterest and love them. With the unicorn obsession staying strong I decided to create DIY unicorn Christmas ornaments. They matched my Christmas Unicorn Birthday Party from a few years ago.
Video Tutorial
Supplies
- Clay (gold) – I used Sculpey Polymer Clay
- Christmas Balls – I used a pearl iridescent finish and matte white one
- Black paint – for the eyelashes
- Paper flowers
- White fake poinsettia flower – for ears
- Pink felt – for ears
Ornament Instructions
Make Horn
- Roll two pieces of clay into cylinders
- One point should be more narrow
- Twist two pieces together in a spiral
- Cut the bottom in a straight line so it can be glued to the ornament
- Bake clay as described on packaging
Make Unicorn Ears
- Use the petals of a fake white poinsettia for the ears
- Cut off similar size petals
- Cute triangle of pink felt
- Glue pink felt to white petal
Assemble Ornament
- Glue horn in middle of bulb a bit lower than the cap where the string is
- Secure ears on either side of cap
- In the space around the horn and ears glue the flowers until you get the desired fullness
- Paint eyelashes with black acrylic paint. Let dry.
- Tie sparkly ribbon to hang on tree.
I gave the DIY unicorn Christmas ornaments as presents the year I made them. Although I loved them I really didn’t need a half dozen. I went for a pastel and white theme. I did switch it up and make a black sheep unicorn. For the purple one I put sparkles inside a see-through ornament. The horn I painted sparkles on and I used clay ears to switch it up. Otherwise the process is the same I just used a darker theme.
