Halloween Dinner Party

I absolutely love Halloween, it is my Christmas. This got me thinking, why does Christmas get all the glory, why don’t people have Halloween dinners? Thus I decided I would throw a Halloween dinner party – hopefully it will become an annual occurrence. To bring the evening together I used: decor, table settings, and of course food. See the video and instructions below to give you Halloween inspiration.

Halloween Decor

Selectively put Halloween decor throughout your home to create the spooky ambiance. I set the mood before a guest even enters my home with my DIY Halloween Wreath.

Halloween Wreath

The main showpiece is the table setting, but I had other decor like the BOO balloons and my Halloween tree. Most of the decor is from Dollarama and Michael’s or handmade. My place and table is small so I decked our the railing with everything Halloween. Some pieces I used were:

  • Halloween wreath
  • orange and black decorations – sparkly spider garland
  • lanterns
  • Halloween tree
  • BOO balloons
  • spiderwebs
  • DIY spiderweb snowflake

Halloween Place Setting

The table setting is where I had the most fun. I placed a white tablecloth on my wood table so everything else would pop. The decor I put on the railing made a perfect backdrop. You may not have as much Halloween dishware as I do but you can get a similar look for your Halloween dinner party using basic colours of black, white and accents of orange. What I specifically used was: black snake themed cardboard charger plates from Martha Stewart, skull plates, skull mason jars (from the dollar store!) and black cocktail glasses. The salt and pepper shakers are pumpkins and I put real mini pumpkins on the table next to festive flowers in a skull mason jar.

Halloween Food

Of course the most important thing at a dinner party, Halloween or otherwise is the food. Who cares, if things look pretty if you’re hungry. With my nut allergy eating is something hard at parties, when you throw your own it’s always safe!

For the main I went for a harvest theme with acorn rice-stuffed squash – I modified this recipe by excluding the nuts, pepper flakes and using regular rice. I had garlic sauteed kale on the side – so it was a vegetarian dinner.

For dessert I made cupcakes and attempted to make them look like ghosts and Frankenstein – I think I failed horribly – but I tried! I also put gummies with eyes and vampire teeth on skewers.
