Fronterra Farms Glamping Review

Winery Outfit Prince Edward County
Insider of Glamping tent

I didn’t have much time to go on a far vacation this summer, but I wanted to do a quick getaway. Seeing a picture of glamping on Instagram I was instantly set on going. So I searched and found Fronterra Farms glamping in Prince Edward County. We booked last minute the week before my vacation, at barely two hours away it’s not far to go for an adventure. I knew I was due to visit the county more since my last winery tour experience.

The Tent

Glamping Fronterra

Glamping is the perfect balance between actual camping and being in a hotel. My partner was thrilled to be in the ‘woods’ and I kept reminding him this isn’t actually real camping. Our tent was decorated thoughtfully, all the colours matched, I believe the theme was La bohème. The safari-like tent stood on a wooden platform and had a four poster bed in it, with a couch, coffee table, side tables, dresser and decor details like old clocks.

For practically there were lanterns and a mosquito net, the tent didn’t have electricity. Charging ours phones was a challenge, we brought portable chargers which died immediately and charged the phones while driving. The one gap inside the tent was there was no sheet on the bed for some reason, just a duvet – I found that so odd.

Outdoor Kitchen

Our kitchen was in the backyard of our tent. It was magical looking, like fairies lived in the forest. A blue cupboard held the matching blue dishes and our food/cooler locked in the cupboards. However, the crafty raccoons got our marshmallows and bread during the night – I should have known the cupboard wasn’t completely secure, they didn’t even open the lock they managed to squeeze through the back of the cabinet. Next to the cupboard there was a dining table, campfire area, stove top and grill we rented. Essentially everything you’d need to cook a meal.

Glamping Bathroom

The bathroom was also outdoors. In true camping style; the toilet wasn’t flushable, sawdust had to be put in it after each time. But as far as outhouses go it was a nicer one. The outdoor shower was beautiful, I felt so free using it. One warning though is there are so many mosquito, remember to bring bug spray.

The Wineries

The first night we made dinner, drank some wine and as camping tradition demands – made s’mores. The next day, besides making a campfire we amused ourselves with visiting wineries. We took a 30 minute taxi ride to an area that made four wineries in walking distance of one another. We went to the furthest one and walked to the others. Broken Stone Winery had the sweetest wine of the ones we visited, thus it was my favourite. Despite some rain it was worth the journey it.

My first glamping experience had a couple hiccups. I thought the Fronterra Farms glamping would have fresh produce and eggs, so I didn’t bring any veggies with us. It was disappointing the activities advertised (i.e. fresh eggs) weren’t available. It seemed like the farm still needed to work out some kinks, like why didn’t the bed have a sheet? But overall, it was a good experience and I would absolutely go glamping again – I have a taste for it now.
