Toronto has had so many pop-ups I’ve lost count! The Utopia pop-up in Kensington Market is nature themed with a DIY feel which is quite appropriate for the area. I went on a Thursday after work and there were only a handful of people in it, so taking pictures and having a friendly stranger take your photo was easy. My Utopia pop-up outfit took me from work to an after work outing.
Outfit
For my outfit I wore a glittery purple pleated skirt which is super comfortable. The sheer leopard shirt is from my retail days at Jacob many years ago – so this is a shop my closet look to keep me going with my shopping cleanse. The funky fishnets are busy but I’m going for more is more with this look since it is muted in colour. The only accessory I wore was long black fringe earrings which I made. They are so light and dramatic, available on my Etsy (shameless self promotion, I know!)
Skirt: TSOQ
Shirt: Jacob (now closed)
Fishnets (had them for ages)
Ankle boots: Sam Edelman
Earrings: Made by me
The Pop-up Rooms
For the Utopia pop-up You enter through a shiny silver room with lights and streamers. Next a pretty lace tepee, yellow walls and cute pillows – the yellow is so happy. Apparently the theme is supposed to be nature which you can see a bit but it doesn’t scream out at you. There is also a room with pillows and sheep stuffed animals – assuming the theme there was counting sheep. And of course there was a flower wall, that is essential – but the swing made it a bit different. In my opinion, the light up umbrella room with mirrors was the most interesting room, the blue light had a nice effect.
I am seriously thinking I should create a pop-up it seems fun and I live to DIY! I also went to the Happy Place and the one at The Bay in the last few months. But it’s so popular now I think I may have missed the boat. Maybe some day…
