I have wanted to make a mermaid crown forever, which is likely why I made an Ursula Costume for Halloween. Ursula is one of my favourite Disney villains, she’s a businesswoman. This was my take on the Disney villain, so I took some creative liberties.

Ursula Costume Tentacles & Tulle Skirt
I technically only have six tentacles including my legs for the required eight for an octopus, but it’s close enough. I made four satin tentacles, stuffed them with cotton and fastened them to a waist tie.
Supplies
- Black fabric
- Purple Fabric
- Cotton
- Thread
Ursula Tentacle Directions
- Make a tentacle pattern on paper
- Cut the pattern out
- Trace it on your purple and black satin fabric, cut pieces out
- Sew pieces together wrong side up (with the nice finish inside) and flip out afterwards
- Stuff with cotton
- Pin placement before sewing and try it on to see if it falls right. Sew to matching black satin band.
I made a black tulle wrap I also attached to a sash to go under the tentacles.

Ursula Mermaid Crown
I’m super happy with how this crown turned out; it took awhile but was worth it. I’ll do a full tutorial about it soon. But essentially I made a form out of two foam sheets sandwiched between wire and wrapped in ribbon, then I adorned it like crazy. Here is an in progress picture.
For the earrings and necklace, I covered leftover crown shells with glue and glitter then attached to an earhook or ribbon. For the trident I bought a cheap devil’s pitchfork from the dollar store, glued shells on it and spray painted it gold.
I attempted to paint myself purple, but failed, this was the best I could do. The purple body stocking made me purple enough though. I hope you liked this costume; see previous Halloween tutorials here
